Chess on Fate Round is a clean two-player game of full standard chess. One player joins a room as White, the other as Black, and White moves first. Every move is validated by the rules — legal moves only, with castling, en passant, and pawn promotion all handled. Check, checkmate, stalemate, and draws are detected automatically. Add an optional chess clock — each player gets their own time bank (3, 5, or 10 minutes) that only ticks on their turn, just like online chess, and the first to flag loses.

How it works

  1. 1

    Join a room

Two players join with their name — the host can join as a player too.

  2. 2

    White moves first

One player is White, the other Black. Tap a piece, then its destination.

  3. 3

    Checkmate to win

Trap the enemy king with no legal escape. Stalemate or insufficient material is a draw.

Game rules & how to play

Objective

  • Checkmate your opponent’s king — attack it so it cannot escape, block, or capture its way out.
  • A game with no checkmate can end in a draw (stalemate, insufficient material, repetition, or the fifty-move rule).

Setup

  • Exactly 2 players join a room. The host can play too.
  • One player is randomly assigned White, the other Black. White always moves first.
  • Optional chess clock — each player gets their own time bank (e.g. 10 minutes) that only counts down on their turn. Run out and you lose on time.

Taking a turn

  • On your turn, tap one of your pieces to see its legal moves, then tap a highlighted square to move there.
  • All standard rules apply — castling, en passant, and pawn promotion are handled automatically; only legal moves are allowed.
  • When a pawn reaches the far rank, choose what it promotes to (Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight).

Winning

  • Deliver checkmate to win immediately. You can also win if your opponent resigns or runs out of time.
  • Stalemate or insufficient material ends the game in a draw.
  • Play again starts a fresh game — colors swap so the previous Black player opens as White.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do you need for Chess?
Chess works with 2 players. Create a room on Fate Round, share the link or code, and everyone joins from their browser — no sign-up required.
Is Chess free to play online?
Yes. Chess on Fate Round is completely free — no download, no payment, and no account needed. Create a room and start playing in under a minute.
Can I play Chess on my phone?
Yes. Fate Round runs in any mobile browser. Share the room link in your group chat and everyone can play Chess from their phone or desktop.
How does the clock work?
Each player has their own time bank that only counts down while it is their turn — making a move stops your clock and starts your opponent’s, just like chess.com. The first player to run out of time loses. Pick 3, 5, or 10 minutes each, or leave it off for an untimed match.
Can I resign?
Yes — there is a Resign button during play. Resigning hands the win to your opponent.
Can more than 2 people play?
No — chess is strictly 2 players. The host can play as one of the two if they want in on the match.
