Game rules & how to play

Objective

  • Everyone races to solve the same 9×9 Sudoku puzzle.
  • Fill cells one at a time — the first correct answer on a cell earns the most points.
  • The player with the highest total score when the puzzle is complete wins.

How it works

  • The host shares a game code — everyone joins with their name.
  • When the host starts, all players see the same partially-filled 9×9 grid.
  • Tap a cell, then tap a number to submit. Erase clears a wrong draft; undo reverses your last local change.

Scoring

  • Per cell: 1st correct = +10, 2nd = +6, 3rd = +4, 4th+ = +2.
  • Wrong answer = −3 points; the cell stays open for you to try again.
  • Each player can score from a cell at most once. First correct answer sets the cell color.

Game end

  • The game ends when every empty cell has been solved correctly or the host taps “End Game”.
  • The player with the highest total score wins.
  • Players who didn't ready up for a rematch are excluded from the next game's leaderboard.

Frequently asked questions

How many players do you need for Sudoku?
Sudoku works with 2–20 players. Create a game on FateRound, share the link or code, and everyone joins from their browser — no sign-up required.
Is Sudoku free to play online?
Yes. Sudoku on FateRound is completely free — no download, no payment, and no account needed. Create a game and start playing in under a minute.
Can I play Sudoku on my phone?
Yes. FateRound runs in any mobile browser. Share the room link in your group chat and everyone can play Sudoku from their phone or desktop.
How do trophies work in Sudoku?
Trophies are earned automatically as you play — things like finishing your first game, racking up wins, or hitting a milestone. Bronze, silver, gold, and platinum trophies are listed above with what they need; some are secret and only reveal themselves once you've earned them. Trophies and points carry over to your FateRound profile across every game.
What happens if I submit a wrong answer?
You lose 3 points, but you can try again on any cell that has not been claimed yet.
Can multiple players solve the same cell?
No — the first player to submit the correct number claims that cell. Everyone else must move on.
How does multiplayer Sudoku work?
Everyone races on the same 9×9 puzzle at once. Instead of solving quietly, you compete to claim cells: submit the correct number for a cell before anyone else and it’s yours. It turns a solo puzzle into a fast, competitive race.
How does scoring work?
A correct answer scores +10 points and claims the cell; a wrong guess costs −3, so speed and accuracy both matter. Highest score when the grid is finished wins.
